Thanks guys, I made it work. I guess you have to "reset" the track before it will allow you to choose an AU instrument.

So, last night I was able to record some compositionally worthless but kind of fun songs I wrote a few years ago. I used the Blüthner with the "chamber recording" setting, no changes to anything else anywhere.

Hi, did you run the audio unit manager under preferences in Logic? that must be used to scan for new plugins to load initially.

Hi Joe,

Thank you for trying to help me. However, I'm still stuck. I select the track, click the instrument button, and it brings up a list of Logic instruments in the "library" on the right. Nowhere do I see AU. Any ideas?

From within Logic, you first need to create a new software instrument track.

As soon as the software instrument track is created, click on the window representing the new track you just created. Next, upon looking in the Inspector, you will find a button that says "Instrument" -- click on that button.

Upon clicking on that Instrument button in the Inspector, the screen will reveal a large number of available software instruments; as you look down towards the bottom of that list, you will find a line that says AU (for Audio Units -- not VST) instruments.

Hover the pointer over that AU Instruments window, and then look for Modartt (assuming you have loaded that AU version of Modartt Pianoteq into your computer); next, hover the pointer over Pianoteq (5), which then reveals a choice of mono, stereo, etc. Click on your choice, such as stereo.

If done correctly, you may expect the Pianoteq software to work, and you are in business.

I used Pianoteq a few years ago in Logic Express, I just have no clue how. I'll keep looking through the manuals.

Logic doesn't support VST, it supports only AU.

Am I blind, an idiot, or both? I've checked the manual and the FAQ and I can't find anything on how to use PT as a VST instrument. I open Logic and I can't figure out how to find PT and load it as a VST instrument. I have only used the stand alone version in the past. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
