That would be extremely annoying although a bright upper register is more appealing than a dull one.  Can you adjust the EQ with the sound card?

Not with my Echo sound card.  My Behringer mixer has high and low equalisation but adjusting the high for piano frequencies that stop at 4K has little attenuation effect.
