FWIW --

I've never played a real CP-80, and have no standard of comparison against the "real instrument".

But the sounds coming out of the v5 CP-80 are just wonderful! It's a delightful instrument, "virtual" or not.

Not all but many of them, you can identify them as they are tagged "Recorded with Pianoteq 5" on page https://www.pianoteq.com/listen_by_instrument.

(I suppose that the fact of having another 1899 Bech - almost as old as KIViR's one from 1896 - in the Kremsegg collection has played some part in having the latter abandoned)

You're not wrong there! I was really hoping for a big improvement in CP-80. Initially, I was slightly disappointed, but now that I've got the levels and effects how I want, I'm totally loving it. A magical sound. It's awesome to be able to lengthen the strings too.

I'm also loving all the historical pianos and the new binaural model.

KIViR instruments are more consistently usable now. Under 5.0, many of the presets sounded like they had underwater reverb but I suspect that was a compatiblity issue as 5.1 made even more KIViR3 presets break this same way.

You'd probably have to install Pianoteq 3 to truly compare KIViR3 against KIViR5.1. And you'd need access to the original instruments to know what they should sound like.

I agree. There is one example of a supposed unmodified original I found on youtube which I prefer and instantly became my ideal but I don't know if it's more real or just a different possible real sound.

The rest of KIViR v5 is fine, especially the harpsichords with their pluck noises which are very characteristic.

You are right. The following instruments were part of KIViR 4:

Cimbalom (2007)
Neupert (1941)
F.E. Blanchet (1733)
Grimaldi (1697)
C. Graf (1826)
J. Schantz (1790)
J.E. Schmidt (1790)
D. Schöffstoss (1812)
A. Walter (1790)
Pleyel (1926)
Erard (1922)
Bechstein (1896)
CP-80

All of them are part of KIViR 5 with the exception of the Bechstein. No idea why I thought there was also a Bösendorfer.

If all else fails, one can of course just use the old KIViR 4 package... it can also still be downloaded from the legacy page.

Bechstein couldn't be improved so that it sounds better than old version, unfortunately, so it was dropped. I also mourn its loss, the jangly sound it had was definitely useful, say, for covering some Queen songs, since Freddie loved playing on his Bechstein half-grand...

Bösendorfer was never a part of KIViR, IIRC. There's a Besendorfer for Kremsegg addons...

It seems you are right. The old Bechstein and Bösendorfer KIViR instruments seem to be gone. I had them masked out from the list anyway since they were vastly inferior to the Kremsegg instruments. I guess Modartt decided that they are redundant now.

Yes, D4 was also slightly revoiced to sound better

The updated harpsichords sound really alive with let-off sounds!

The D4 seems to be a bit clearer as well? I'm not too sure, maybe I'm just hearing things... haha. Will need to play a lot more tomorrow

I just downloaded the updated Pianoteq 5.1 and KIViR. I love those old instruments. And my first impression is the updated versions sound more detailed and lively than before. Need to spend some more time with them.

If there are still people who think synths from the 1970's/1980's are "vintage": let Pianoteq bring you back centuries ago with KIViR and the Kremsegg collections!

As said in another thread I would have awaited the new version of those Kivir5, knowing how difficult a beta process can be, somewhere when the snow would fall in Germany (and not at nearly 25°+ in October^^). So for me it's wonderful that they are already here, and I'm instantly in love with the Graf. The much beloved Walter is a slight bit too "synthetic" for my taste, but well, what can you say after 15 minutes playing...and mostly I love this lively "ringing" sound that might also be called "synthetic".
Thanks for those wonderful additions, I'm still so happy with the Kremsegg editions, but the Kivir updated is certainly another wonderful addition to our pianos and fortes of those centuries. Thank you!
