Ah! I see. Then billd has your answer, something is not right with your midi keyboard.

Check the midi messages window to see what's happening there to be sure. This is under File > Audio/MIDI Setup > MIDI

You should see something like this when you play a note (A# 3 in this case):

156.149  ch1   Note 070 On  (A#3)     veloc: 80
156.267  ch1   Note 070 Off  (A#3)     veloc: 0

Note what it's saying when you hold down a note, and then also AFTER you release the note if there is a message.

I should ask, are you using Pianoteq standalone or inside a DAW?

Ok so I just looked at the midi messages when I press and hold a note down for a few seconds then let go,  using middle C as the example it looks like this :

518:525 ch1 Note 060 On (C3) Veloc : 98
523.099 ch1 Controller 88 value : 72
523.099 ch1 Note 060 Off (C3) Veloc : 98

This is using Pianoteq 5 as a standalone , not inside a DAW

If you press and hold a key and get no sustain than something is wrong with your keyboard, or your setup or the program.  When I press and hold a key I get very long sustain that blooms and then slowly fades away just as you would get in an acoustic piano.

But the note will sustain without using the pedal, to the extent, roughly, that a note would sustain on an acoustic piano when you keep a key depressed. That's how pianos work and PT mirrors acoustics as closely as possible.  You can adjust the degree of string resonance to vary the length notes sustain before the sound decays naturally.  If you want an infinite sustain, without pedal (or even with pedal: the sound will still decay eventually), then you are looking for a facility that pianos do not have in the acoustic world.

You can also use the "Sostenuto" Pedal.  This one will sustain whatever notes are being held when you press the Pedal.  No other notes will be sustained.  Release the Pedal to end the sustain.

Just learning to play around with pianoteq 5 standard and so far I love it! . I was wondering if there is a setting to sustain the notes when held down without the sustain pedal ?

E.g if im using my keyboard by itself  and lets say i press down and hold C it will sustain the note without the me pressing down on the sustain pedal . Is this possible to achieve in pianoteq 5 ?

I don't like to use so much sustain .

Under the action tab in the bottom right section, there is a "last damper" parameter. If you set it to 0, you effectively remove all of the dampers and notes will sustain "forever". Though then, the sustain pedal won't do anything if you want to stop the sound.

Alternately, you can just click on the sustain pedal and it will keep the sustain pedal down by itself until you click on it again (or until you use your sustain pedal).
