Rachel

I know what you mean about the brassy overtones. I seem to notice them the most around E4. Your spectrum profile changes in that area seem minimal but this is, in my opinion, the best yet. Regarding the reverb, I usually have to cut the reverb way back for my setup. However this time they sound good to me. The more I play with Pianoteq the more I realize how much I have to learn. Have you ever taken one of the built in presets and gone through note by note settings and zeroed out every setting? It seems to be that this is a sound that is very bland but also not many bad overtones. The job is to put some life in it without introducing the bad.

Bill

I must say myself I do love how clean and clear the sound is though it somehow still has complexity and richness.

And no, I'm not trying to replicate my Steinway. I am just trying to get a sound that I can get lost in and forget I'm listening to digitally created music. My personal taste tends toward the mellower, darker side, which is why I've removed a lot of the brassy, high overtones. To me it sounds like a well-maintained but quite old NY Steinway grand. Not mine, exactly, but a very nice one.

I should say that the velocity curve, dynamics, and reverb are certainly personal choices. For me and my own ability to control the keys, I find the settings in this preset to give me the dynamic range I want and expect when I sit down to play. Also, on 8-6 I had much lighter reverb. I went back to more reverb on this one because the Chopin excerpts sounded way too dry when I listened otherwise. I tweak the reverb depending on the music and the goals of the practice session.

Hi all. New preset with subtle changes from a few nights ago. I can never quit, it seems!

I created a new demo file using various snippets from a full recording I did of the Chopin G minor Ballade. I think it shows the range of the fxp pretty effectively. Let me know what you think!

Hi back, kalessin! That's high praise indeed!
