A normal EQ works on frequency bands _in the final AF output_.   And you can "darken" or "brighten" the overall tone of the piano with it.

What Rachel is asking for is an EQ which works differently _on each note_, but doesn't have to be _specified_ for each note.   So the EQ applied to a bottom-octave note (for example) would have some extra low-frequency gain, and the EQ applied to notes in the  top two octaves would have some extra high-frequency gain.   And notes in between would have EQ that was interpolated between those extremes.

It's a way to "warp" the whole tonal response of the piano sound.   Very powerful, and maybe with only a few parameters needed.  Intriguing . . .

But more complex -- way more complex -- than a parametric EQ applied to the sum of _all_ the notes being played at any time.

I think it would be great if, in addition to the current EQ panel (which is awesome), there would be a simple TONE slider to go brighter or darker. Maybe right under Volume and Dynamics? Then, in the pro version, it would be available in the note editor so that I could make a curve from darker in the bass to brighter in the treble.

Anyone else think this would be cool? Any ideas on how to accomplish this currently? My experiments with hammer hardness aren't quite giving the effect I'd like.

I think a tone button is an excellent idea.
It is like a one way global equalizer. It works very well with electric guitars or pedal effects. A simple first step before the use of more elaborate tools.

In fact there is a 3-band parametric EQ in the effect section, but it's tied to the Amp effect...

It has its own predefined "sound", since Amp models an amplifier, it has that cabinet filtered sound already, even if all EQ controls are dead center. It's for shaping the distortion, not for shaping the overall sound. Hence, a proper 3-band EQ is a must (and a PHASER, too! But that's a different story ).

I uploaded a modified version of your fxp (modified by Philippe) where there is only the addition of the Amp effect along with a corresponding reduction of volume. This amp has a color of its own, and surprisingly, it sounds best when mixing it full volume...

This also reduces the metallic resonances in the bass that you talked about in the other thread.

I uploaded as demo the beginning of Brahm's sonata no 3 in F minor. With this fxp, it recalls the sound of a CD of this piece by André Laplante, who seems to prefer NY Steinways with a large, ample sound.

EDIT: The demo doesn't play! I seem to recall there is a problem with long names for mp3 files...Stay tuned while I rename it...

EDIT2: I replaced the demo, but something should be done about this, it's very easy to make mistakes that you can't correct in the link between Fxp Corner and Other Files! For instance I can't delete the file whose too long name was truncated (get a File not found error). I can't attach the demo to the fxp without re-uploading it (I had already uploaded it to the Other Files section and would get a naming error if trying that)...needs more validation I think...

Perhaps, but it would be a bitch to edit key by key... A global parametric EQ is great for quick shaping of the overall sound.

Which version are you using, pro, standard, or other?
In the 'Effects' section there's a tone slider in the 'Reverb' and the the 'Delay' sub sections. Also the 'Duplex scale' in the 'Design' section. The 'Energy' slider in the 'Design' takes the edge of the sound (say 0.01). These make the sound brighter or darker.
If there were to be another tone slider, I think it should appear in the 'Design' section. The more control the better.

This wouldn't be a per-note feature, though.
