This would simulate the well-known "compression" effect, and a subjectively louder sound.
Try to apply this on your own MIDI recording in your DAW...

I observed that playing MIDI files with PT5.0.0 is substantially louder than using the keyboard. Although I hit the keyboard as hard as can to achieve V=127. Any ideas, why the MIDI is louder?

I have to add that this refers only to downloaded MIDI files, not the ones I record myself.
