Here, here, Mr. Bird, I am in complete agreement with you, regarding your not worrying about a Hi-Res feature. The many demos I have made for Modartt have been made using a 24 year old Roland A-80 keyboard controller. Pianoteq is at a level of nuance and realism that I believe most of its improvements to sound are in the hopefully- musical hands of its performers.

I am reminded of attending a live solo piano concert by Vladimir Horowitz in Chicago's Orchestra Hall. He received numerous standing ovations, and he obliged by performing five encores. At no point in time did anyone applaud his Steinway Model D piano for the beautiful sounds he was able to evoke during the concert.

I don't understant why some people think Ivory II it's perfect or very near that. I did not tried Ivory II yet, but by just listening to the demos I can say I feel it has some "static nature", like any sampler, despite have some algorithms to try recreate some Harmonics and sympathetic ressonance.
It's a very good sampler software, but t just don't feel alive like real grand pianos or pianoteq.

Do you know that there is very little difference between the sound blaster chipsets and the one that are on the E-mu pro cards ?

I too find Ivory and every other DP, including the Roland RD-700NX, wanting in the p, pp, ppp range. I wish I could get my hands on a hi-res controller, but it's hard to justify another board, solely for use as a Pianoteq controller. One day …

Yes, I had the same problem with a Soundblaster that seem to not work well with asio drivers and does't run in low latency conditions.

I don't know if Pianoteq sprinkled some secret sauce, but the K2 sounds mesmerizing. I'm sold. I don't want to hurt Synthogy's feelings, but I'm ditching Ivory 2.

I couldn't find a good velocity curve with Ivory 2 to make my Casio PX-350 sound extra pianissimo. With Pianoteq, I'm able to feel all the nuances and passion. I set the MIDI to hi-res, the Casio being one of the few keyboards that can transmit hi-res. My mind can't hear a difference, but it's there. Maybe the heart can sense, maybe it lessens listener fatigue.

With 4.5 I was hearing overtones that just didn't sound like a real piano. I hear very little of that now.

By the way, now that I disabled my very expensive Sound Blaster card, and I'm using ASIO4ALL at 48k with a usb mixer, I'm able to get 1.3ms of latency, 128 voice polyphony, and 48k internal sampling with very moderate cpu usage. So I correct my earlier assessment. The problem was the Sound Blaster.
