Great photo!!!

But, I now seriously doubt that the sound is from the Vox, for two reasons:

a) I discovered on a competitor's web site (thus no link ;^) that some people actually think the sound is from a Hammond B3 organ.

b) I can actually hear what sounds like the typical B3 key-click sound.

Listening to a demo of the Vox here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A9xc5nh5kw8 I do not hear the keyclick. (I hear the mechanical noise of the keys, but that's different)

I don't know much about organs at all, but if the keyclick sound in that Monkees video is indicative of a tone-wheel organ, then I do suspect it's a tone wheel organ of some type, if it's not the B3.

I love that song too btw!

I heard the Monkees did not really knew to play very well, but mostly basics, and that they were a made-up music group.

In 1:35 we see that the the music it's not correspondng to the hands behavior on the keys.

But I love this music.

That sounds like an organ to me - not an electric piano. And, according to Wikipedia it looks like it could be the Vox Continental: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vox_(musical_equipment) Actually it looks like it's just a stage prop, so who knows what instrument really produced the sound.

A mellow Rhodes does sound like an organ sometimes......

Thanks for posting this. I went to Soundcloud, where he has a note saying that he recorded it without effects and then applied outboard effects to the recording. I wrote a comment pointing him to this forum and asked what effects he used. Let's hope that he responds--his note says that he was using a compressor and EQ and more.

I came across PianoTeq totally by accident this past Sunday evening and listened to the samples then downloaded the demo. Simply could not believe it when I started playing...totally understand why they got the award. Fantastic to see that.

I really like the idea of modeled instead of sampled. The main reason I've not used a VST piano live up to this point is because of the huge sample libraries. Obviously this is a game changer. Runs like a charm on my 2009 Macbook Pro/Yamaha KX-88 and 2007 Sonar DAW.

Well done Modartt! Each update has got better and 4.5 has seen Pianoteq surpass many samples in my opinion. Will Pianoteq 5 put the fear in to the companies that produce samples?
With the D4, Bluthner and U4 range I feel Modartt should now have the confidence to work in conjunction with Steinway, Bosendorfer, Fazioli etc. to produce a range of endorsed pianos approved by these companies. Just like the way the Bluthner was created.

Yes! Congratulations to Modartt!
In my opinion Pianoteq should be part of musicians life. And you don't necessarily need to be proffessional. Because music is about selfexpression. You just have to enjoy yourself, and music exercises brain and soul – it is good kind of ”food”. And music is both science and art,so thank you,Modartt – for the technology for everyone to make music.
