I had this issue with my vista 64. I have onboard audio and an rme fireface 400. Fixed for me when i disabled my windows sound card and assiged " speakers " to the fireface. The audio 1-2 no longer shows upin control panel-sound. But it works. I can watch a vid using "speakers" aka fireface audio 1-2, while working in a music app on the other audio channels of fireface. I no longer have irregularities, presumable because the rme driver is intelligent enough, once u disable the confounded "wndows integrated" %$&#.

I have the same setup, and have the same symptom......sometimes. My hunch about this is, one of my DAWs has reset the same buffer PTQ uses, and if that's so, it's not private to Pianoteq.

Windows tends to be a bossy system. Is it possible it sets up a system-wide buffer in respect of that pair of options (under Properties>Advanced tab) which you can tick for the Output Device you select in the Windows Sounds Mixer : 'Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device' ; plus 'Give exclusive applications priority'?

I always tick those, and in the absence of DAWs PTQ has run well, though whether they're needed I don't know. If they're needed AND there's a need for DAWs, might have to live with the symptom.
