Sorry I don't understand what you mean?
But I talk from experience here: I have had a lot of laptops (I still have 3...), and ALL of them had noise on their audio output except when running on battery. Until I removed the grounding on the PSU cable. BTW: from the PSU to the laptop, there is no earthing anyway: there are only two wires left.

It's not that he should remove the grounding, he should ADD it. The lack of proper grounding is what's causing the noise.

Here's an easy way to do this. Take a piece of cellofane, and just poke it with the power receptacle. Now, with this power receptacle+cellofane combination, put it in the power plug. And the noise is gone!

you could, and if you use ASIO4all anyway, that shouldn't change a lot on the latency front.
But the internal audio cards of PC's are not often of the utmost quality...
If you experience noise, you could... well you SHOULD NOT DO THAT, but it works often... remove the grounding on your laptop's PSU. Before doing that, try simply on batteries. If this cures the noise problem, you know where it's coming from...

Wonder if I could just hookup the hp to my laptop using my blue maudio usb to midi cable and bypass the fasttrack altogether?

Stereo RCA out of laptop directly into R L inputs on DP.

There seems to be known problems with ASIO and the fastrack pro... :-(
ASIO4all should indeed ba a solution

About the noise in the line, I need to know more to help: what is your connection setup?

Thanks for this! I had to disable the power conservation and WiFi but still did hot work. Installed asio4all and now working.

Some other causes of trouble might be the wireless network enabled or graphic card drivers.
I can't recommend enough two freewares hereafter: they helped me A LOT to solve a problem with a laptop (i5 too). Well, they didn't solve it in fact: there was a conflict with the NVidia graphic card that could not be cured, except by disabling it and using the "default" VGA resolution. Not good ! New laptop... :-(

On laptops ACPI battery control can cause a lot of DPC latency. Go to device manager and disable "ACPI compliant method battery" device.

I have the latest version running on my brand new i5 64 bit processor ultrabook connected to a maudio fast trackpro and roland hp307. Unfotunately I can only choose between a completely unusable latency or pops and cracks. Do I need to buy a supercooled amdahl or deep blue to get pianoteq to work? Can anyone help?
