I am not sure it's a sound card issue.. I am trying to record, in my DAW- Logic in that case- a multi-output as if you were recording a real piano in a real studio.
You will have, for an upright recording, 2 microphones placed in front of the piano, 2 in the back and 2 for the room (in that case it would be only one). and then you'll get 5 mono signals to be recorded.
I am getting 1 stereo signal (the 2 front microphones) and 3 mono. When I try to switch to 5 mono (in Logic) there's one signal that I am not getting..

nothing.. I've been trying for a week now, and nothing would work..
It made me even wonder if we might get phase issues with mic placement?

Well I'll try to mess around with it again and try finding a solution.. or maybe it's an incompatible bug between PT and Logic.. I don't know, hopefully we'll get an answer here

At least I don't know of any other possibility rather than the mix table in the recording settings. Actually this is exactly what you describe, the assignment and mixing of microphones to channels, so another function would be redundant?

Might it be that Logic treats the first two channels differently? I.e., you cannot just split the sterephonic output to be channels 1&2? As I said, I don't really know Logic; in other DAWs like Sonar or Reaper a stereo track really is just two mono channels bundled together, but maybe this is somehow different either in Logic or in the AU plugin interface. Any Logic experts here?

Thank you kalessin for your answer.. I did make sure every mic on PT was on one of the 5 outputs allocated, and when I'm choosing 1 stereox3 mono tracks in Logic, it works as said.. It's when I try to get the 5x mono tracks that this is not working, so I was wondering if there's any part in PT where we could assign the output setting of each microphone

As I don't have Logic, I can't say if what you see is a problem with the Pianoteq AU plugin or not. I tried multi-channel audio in Sonar just now, and that works as expected: I get 5 channels in X3, one for each in PTQ, and they seem to work properly. I assume you have checked the sound recording settings in Pianoteq to make sure that the assignment of mikes to channels is as you want it (i.e., check the mix table)?

Sorry to bring back an old subject.. I was messing around PT and Logic X, trying to get 5 mono signals, to recreate a studio set-up.
Got the same issue as pianissimo: Channel 1 gets its feed from mic 1 AND 5,channel 2 gets nothing, channel 3 from mic 2, channel 3 from mic 2, channel 4 from mic 3 and channel 5 from mic 4.. Couldn't make this work.. Any idea?

This option worked for me, but now I have mic 1 and mic 2 on one single stereo track.. could work I guess but I would really appreciate having them on 2 different mono tracks

ok .... what i found is the 5 mono output option that logic shows for pianoteq doesn't seem to work in logic 9. best i can tell, it SHOULD work by adding aux channels. channels1, 3, 4, and 5 are ok. but ch. 2 isn't there.

but there's also an option for 1 stereo pair and 3 mono channels. that does work. all 5 pianoteq outputs are present.

b.k. ... thanx, i'm getting a little closer ... will play around w/it some more tonight. the channels aren't coming out where i would have expected but it might just in my first rough attempt to make it work i assigned something to here that should have gone there.

I have Logic 8 and I can´t get this to work properly... But If you open a software instrument channel and open Pianoteq with multi output 5xmono then you can click a little "+" button at the bottom of mixer channel. If you do that there will open a aux channel, and then do it 3 times more and you have 1 software channel and 4 aux channels that should send the right mic.... But.... it doesn't work that way for me :-( ... The software channel receive mic 1 and 5, the first aux don't receive anything, the 2:nd aux receive mic 2, the 3:rd aux mic 3 and the 4:th aux receive mic 3.... And thats not right (i guess...). But the other options (1xstereo and 3xmono, and 3xstereo) work fine...

I hope it works better in Logic 9...

Wow! That's a great great idea itself and I can see a bunch of ways to mine it ...

That said ... sure would be helpful to know how map the 5 output channels to 5 separate audio tracks in Logic! In MAX/MSP, it's easy ... there's ~vst object and it's perfectly happy connecting on it's PT output channels.

Any ideas about where to look? (and again, your idea is really interesting ...

What about the possibility of a second piano in the virtual acoustic environment?
A second piano by side the first, with adjustable distance of one to another.
Yes, I talk about the chance of the interface to a second instrument to be played together.

And the chance to split the keyboard in two, sellecting the area size that will be used for each one. This would allow to use one instrument for one hand, and another for the other hand.

Advice about how to get the 5 microphone in PT into 5 matching channels in Logic would be much appreciated. When I select PT as an AU to plug into a new Logic track, a dialogue box gives an option for 5 mono channels. But all that leads to is one stereo channel strip ... and not the desired 5 mono tracks . There's an incantation that needs to be made, clearly. All advice about how to get each of PT's 5 channels feeding into 5 corresponding channels in Logic would much appreciate.
