Im no expert in anyway but to me the sound of the K1 resembles a kawai grand piano. I also think that the sound sometimes makes me think about the smaller yamaha grands that alot of schools and churches tend to buy.

Im very fond of the K1 and use it especially for baroque music. Too me its sounds much less bright and resonating then the D4 which is something I greatly appreciate in a baroque setting.

These are just personal reflections, Im sure other users have better answers then I do.

Love the D4, but the K1 doesn't work for me at all though I can hear the Kawai tone in it.  Kawai pianos that I have heard have a timbre somewhere between a Steinway and Yamaha. For the K1 I'd rather just have smaller and less warm version of the D4. But each of us have different sound systems and different ears,  so possibly we are hearing different things...

Just trying to understand better how everything fits together.
