I use a Roland stage piano as keyboard controller, and two Yamaha studio monitors standing just behind the keyboard. The other day I found something by accident: I had borrowed one the of speakers for some other project, and -too lazy for the moment- hadn't re-installed it yet. So I played Pianoteq with just one speaker. Surprisingly, it really pleased me; there's something direct, responsive about it, like that one speaker giving more the feel of a musical instrument rather than an artificial setup; a small musical instrument obviously, but still. I guess the normal, stereo, setup emulates the sound-field depth of a long grand piano (standing in a room or hall depending on Pianoteq excellent reverb settings), whereas with this accidental mono experiment it's just that speaker there, being a real instrument like it was a small piano. I wonder anybody has the same experience, it's worth a try if you ask me.
