ps are you getting enough sleep?

I also play the trumpet a little so I would enjoy any instrument if he chooses to play it. I don't plan on pressuring him to play an instrument, but definitely show him how much I enjoy it and expose him to music.

Such a video would be something to look forward to ! :-)

My main instrument is guitar, second is piano/keys in general, but i also play drums...
My son will be 10 next month - he has been sitting behind the drums since he was about 2 or so, not that he really wants to pick it up yet, but he does really have a good sense of rhythm....
Every now and then he sits behind the kit and starts playing and wants me to pick up my guitar to jam with him...
That is SOO cool!!!!
Believe me - it is real great to be able to make music with your child, with whatever instrument...
I find it so hard to not try and push him, but I have been giving guitar lessons for quite some time, also to young children who were pushed by their parents but did not enjoy it themselves... that really keeps me from 'steering' him too much in any direction... but the more I cherish the moments that he does want to play with me...

Any way I hope your son will grow up and inherit your feel and love for music...

EvilDragon - I totally agree with you, guitar players do get all the girls (but it's usually hard rock guitar player, or better yet - FLAMENCO!!!). So all that's left for us pianists is to drool in envy, and bitch about our poor fortune. Please don't take this basic pianist right from us!!!
(I love guitar - it's a great instrument)

Klemperer, that's a very amusing story. Thank you. It would be quite a sacrifice on my behalf to listen to certain Israeli pop songs. But, anything for the kids, right? :-).

Jake, he has already been taking 9 months of "comparitive critisizm" lessons of his father playing poor Petrucciani knock-offs (hmm... Dad's second take was a little worse that the first one... or something along these lines).
By the way there's a great Petrucciani Vid where he sits with his 5 year old at a nice Steinway after a concert and they ask him what the kid thinks of his concerts. "He says it's boring" he replied.

If he does get to be a pianist, I really envy him for having been born around the the time of Pianoteq IV !!!

I must tell you a story here. I have no own children up to now, but I used to send my female friends who were pregnant pieces of classical music from different centuries. Some people had written it would be nice for the growing kids to, well, how would you say, "listen to" ;-) certain kinds of classical music. The first one I sent was one the lady listened to very often (we are not so sure about the kid weeks and months before "dare alla luce" ).
That was quite some years ago, and now the boy has become a highly talented young metal singer...

So maybe you and your wife listened to pop songs from the  radio in Israel - and your boy will become a piano player. Chances are that he'll use pianoteq 27 in his prime .
