I'm giving the NUMA another try.  I was able to audition another one and found the action to be the exact opposite of what I remembered it to be (I actually recall it being very synth-like!!).  It will be here in a few weeks, but I have a question for you.

The action on the model I played was particularly noisy but I found the release noise to have an unusual "clunk" to it.  When I pressed a key fully and then pulled my finger quickly away to allow the key to rise I heard a very loud CLUNK.  Imagine the sound when playing a fast scale!!  It sounded like a stampede!!

Does your board produce this same level of noise?  Perhaps something could be done to the padding on the "key up" stop points?  A softer rubber?

It didn't till recently. I have only now just been checking the web for for lube. Seems the best bet will be Teflon grease or Teflon dry lube.

I think a lot of the lube came away after much handling of the parts. I will have another look tomorrow and let you know what I discover.

I put 0.5mm Nylon Washers in. That is all I needed to lower the strike point. It seems from John Rule's measurements thet keystroke varies, so if you wish to adjust strike point, you will have to do your own measurements. 0.5mm made a significant difference to the strike point. It repeats so much better now. I can do the 4,3,2,1 Cha Cha now

I get velocity 127 to soon, it's to easy to reach max velocity (at least in my point of view). It's really strange that Fatar don't have velocitysettings for the VMK-188+... I wounder if it is possible to change this in any way (from what you have seen in your research and changing). Did I get you right if the lowering of the triggers made the board even easier to reach high velocity?

Lowering the sensor strip/triggers had a slight effect on velocity, however I always adjust/fine-tune with the software curve in PianoTeq as well as the built in automatic velocity curve creator in the NUMA Nero. For adjusting the velocity curve/velocity outputs of your VMK-188+ you will need something like MIDI-OX and/or PianoTuner 1.0 together with MIDI-YOKE, I think!

The reason I lowered the sensor strip/triggers was to get better repetitions. I have acheived this. I have been adjusting velocity curves, both the keyboard's and PianoTeq's since.

I have a VMK 188+ that I kind of like even if I sometimes get this random 127 velocity, not that often thou... Is that much different for a Roland ?

Supose on of the contacts for a key it's not good, even after cleaning. Is that possible to move the contacts to, lets say, the last key, since the last key it's almost not used and have very little impact in terms dynmic?
