Tonight I read a number of places that people had problems with the Uno. Apparently there were a bunch of defective units made. M-Audio's forum suggested downloading MIDI Monitor and seeing what sorts of spurious messages were being sent. A malfunctioning interface would be expected to send pitch bends and all kinds of other nonsense. The only odd ones I could find were MIDI clock messages. I don't know enough about MIDI to know what these are for, but I did discover the Yamaha S80 was set to internal sync, as opposed to "MIDI" (which would be external I guess).

After changing sync to "MIDI" the problem went away. I set it back to "internal" and the problem (including loud random notes like someone closing the lid on your fingers) came back. So I'm 80% sure that was the cause.

Perhaps a future version of Pianoteq could just ignore MIDI clock messages from misconfigured devices? Or is there a legitimate reason a piano controller would send them?

I don't know how it was working with the old Edirol before. Possibly my 1-yo daughter (who loves to push all the buttons) managed to alter the setting. Previously she pressed some sequence of buttons that transposed all the piano keys a whole step higher, so that a playing a C Major scale would yield a D Major scale. That problem didn't get fixed until she happened to bang on the same sequence of buttons to bring up that setting again.

Anyway, I'm posting this in case it helps someone else in the future.

I had problems with an M-Audio UNO. I replaced it with an E-MU X-Midi and had no problems with that. The E-MU is built much better.

I'm frequently getting the message "UNEXPECTED midi clock message 90 31 f8 98 ! Please report that issue to us" while playing a Yamaha S80 through an M-Audio Uno. Also getting a lot of random notes during busy passages. It's happening on two different Macs.

I'm not having the same problem with a newer, USB-connected keyboard, and I did not have the problem using the same keyboard with a previous (EDIROL UA-20) MIDI/USB interface that quit working. So I'm guessing the problem is not with Pianoteq. Still, the message said "please report that issue to us" so I thought I'd post it here.

If anyone knows what to do, that would be helpful also. The Yamaha hasn't been connected via MIDI for a year or so.
