sorry to bump this old thread. I am running 64 bit versions of ableton live 8 and pianoteq. However ableton does not find pianoteq as a VST

Found this old post whilst researching my question but that question still stands: I know what '64 bit' is but what practical difference does it make in performance?

Incidentally, it took some time for me to establish why 64 bit PTQ loaded on my new machine wouldn't work as a vst with Sonar 7, i.e when I eventually saw the FAQ mentioned in the original post. Am I the only one that didn't make this connection immediately?

No, they both see the same computer, so it won't eat up another activation slot. You may even install pianoteq on Linux on the same computer and it will use the same activation slot.

Cool, but will I have to register the 2nd version on the same machine and will that eat up one of my 3 install permits?

Yes, you can. The 32-bit and 64-bit use different file names, so they can be installed at the same time without any issue.

"My 32-bit VST host cannot find the 64-bit plugin of Pianoteq.
If you are using a 32-bit version of a host, it will not be able to recognize 64-bit versions of plugins, even if running a 64-bit operating system. You need to install either a 64-bit version of the host or the 32-bit version of Pianoteq."

So, just to be clear (as if it's not already), there's positively no way I can install the 32 bit version of Pianoteq along side the 64 bit version on the same machine? I'm running Ableton Live (32 bit only) on a 64 bit machine which already had Pianoteq 64 bit installed and running as standalone. I hear of folks running multiple instances of Pianoteq on the same machine, but I suppose that is simply reloading the same VST into the host app.
