Logic has an interesting function called beatmapping that is very simple to use and works for audio and midi. I use it a lot when I play free and than I want to print a score or I need a click for further arrangement ; it's also a more than decent notation software.

Thank you for your response!
I've downloaded the demo version of finale. It has become a monster program since I've tried it the last time. I hadn't quite the time to make it with this one and I'm not sure if I'm ever willing to have it for finale.
I did it in Nuendo with the "setting the bars" feature and it worked well (it wasn't a complex composition), but Nuendo did a better job than I've thought it would. This feature (to set the bars wherever you want) is real great for music which is played without a clicktrack although it is a bit of a work, but when it's done it works for the whole song and all tracks and quantize-procedures.

Thank you two for your help

Heinke

Hello Heinke,

You may wish to reconsider Finale, as the past several versions allowed one to record music with as much (or little) rubato as you like -- provided that you used a conventional sustain foot pedal to tap your tempi in time with your music. As I recall, you might set 4/4 time to allow you to count eight eighth-notes/quavers, and play to your heart's content. I have never used this feature, but I did see it demonstrated quite effectively at several NAMM shows.

Cheers,

Joe

Hi Everyone!

Does anyone use a program for making proper notation out of an midi recording played without an click and with various tempi.

Long ago I've used FINALE where you can record a metrom (click) after playing and then you can quantize the notes for a proper layout.
Is there anything easy to use out there?

Thank you for your help

Heinke
