It may be just a matter of a VST API call to tell hosts that it can be used as an insert effect. Plenty of other vst instruments do it. But then, they'd need to write the code to handle the incoming audio that the vst host might starting sending to the plugin.

Personally, I think it would be really cool to pump arbitrary audio into the "soundboard" and have it react depending on pedaling, which notes are down/undamped etc. On the other hand, personally, I'd rather see all possible development energy go into getting the pianoteq piano sound itself over that next hurdle.

There's a cool, free VST plugin called PianoVerb. It simulates the inside of a piano with the dampers pulled off the strings, and makes a very cool reverb effect.

Can Pianoteq's sympathetic resonance be accessed as an insert effect for another sound to pass through in a DAW? Can the undampered strings of a Pianoteq piano be made to resonate in response to an incoming audio signal?

Steve
