Although we do not have any partnership with breath and wind controllers, I can share our experience with some devices that we used with Airteq:
- Sylphyo
- TECcontrol
- AirMotion
- MRTaudio (previous version)
Each of them comes with a way of mapping the available gestures to midi channels (some with a desktop app, some with a phone app, some with a controller unit, some directly on the device), to specify the input/output range, and sometimes the mapping curve. They are all compatible with Airteq and can be used to increase musical expression while playing the presets.

Please share your own experience with those devices or other ones !

I’ve never heard of Papritech and their UK company records don’t inspire confidence.

Despite having a website that appears to date back to 2021 — suggesting early trials or sales — their UK financial filings show no turnover, no assets, and no evidence of trading. Their website lists a Manchester address, yet the directors live elsewhere and the registered office is in Oldham, with the business seemingly run off a mobile number.

None of this reflects the transparency I expect from a legitimate manufacturer. Added to that, their product looks heavily derivative of TEControl’s long‑established breath and motion‑sensing controllers. Taken together, these are significant red flags, and I would advise caution before dealing with them.

Hi Juliette, thank you so much for your reply!
Have you tried any others, like the ones from Papritech, for example? It’s just that the wireless option really catches my eye, although it’s true that buying from the UK these days has become a bit of a hassle, VAT, customs fees… I mean, it’s almost like buying from Mars.

Juliette wrote:

Dear Jmanrique,

In general, breath and wind controllers come with a possibility to finely tune the response of the device to your own movements (either a standalone app, a phone app, or hard tunings directly on the device). In general, the user can adjust the input and output range, and the response curve. I experienced that after these adjustments, head movements and breath/bite control were very expressive and accurate, for most devices that I had the opportunity to test. Anyway in Airteq each midi message can be mapped to a desired Airteq internal Action, or disabled, so one can learn to master one head movement before adding other expressive gestures.

I hope this helps !

Juliette

But if there’s a single-sensor model, why have the accelerometer and the bite sensor if, in the end, we’re basically just using the same old pressure sensor?

I’ve been using a Yamaha BC2 for a long time—the one that came with my VL70-m (yes, I’m old—I bought it new)—and I have to turn on the VL70-m, even if I’m not going to use it, just to be able to use the BC2, which, by the way, is pretty old and I’ve had to repair more than once.

Airteq is launching today, and I just saw a video where someone from the team was demonstrating how to use a TEControl USB MIDI Breath & Bite Control with Airteq. I’d had it on my radar as a possible replacement for my old BC2, but I have some doubts—especially after my recent experience with Osmose, which I’ll talk about another time, or in another post, or on another forum.

The questions are:

isn’t controlling the sound with head movements a bit too crazy, and won’t we end up disabling two sensors just to keep from going nuts and/or ending up with a stiff neck?

is it a reliable, stable, and durable device?
