He is known for his profound influence on the development of music in Germany. He was born in Flanders but spent most of his life in Italy.
"Herr Gott, lass dich erbarmen" ("Lord God, have mercy") is a German Renaissance hymn (often associated with the melody "O Welt, ich muss dich lassen" or "Innsbruck, ich muss dich lassen").
