The existing MIDI spec already has 14-bit resolution on Pitch Bend (and has done since 1983) and also for about 15 years or more has also had a SysEx Universal Non-RealTime implementation of microtuning to the nearest 1/100th of a cent (or something like that - I forget - but you can read the spec for that on www.midi.org )

I haven't found much information about "high definition midi" (Midi 2). There doesn't seem to be an official protocol yet.

I did see this diagram at the zenph site:

http://www.zenph.com/midi.html

Looking for any information at all really, but I'm most curious about what it does to pitch data. As in--does it have the ability to calculate pitch wheel data in smaller increments and adjust the tuning of each note?

(The zenph system seems to "correct" the pitch of piano recordings, according to their site, and that seems worrisome--what if you want an out of tune piano sound or an older temperament? Trying to learn more about that too...)

Here's an Electronic Musician article with an overview of the zenph system, too. I'd forgotten reading this when they first announced:

http://emusician.com/mag/emusic_piano_resurrection/
