Michael,
It is an Expresscard slot.
I did some tests of the Echo IOx with it and it worked very well.

I am also looking at trying an Expresscard Firewire adapter and using my AudioFire 2 to see what performance I could get out of that.

They have Duo Core processors. Much more powerful than the current Atom processors.

Hope this helps (I may get one just for sheer portability and convenience)

Once you've tried a good Express Card or USB soundcard you'll get spoiled. There's an amazing difference in the quality of the sound, stereo imaging etc. I use either an Echo Indigo DJ card (the PCMCIA slot version) or an M-Audio USB card. Both are quite good and have native Asio drivers, but they're fairly expensive. Creative Sounds might have something good and more economical.

Well the new updates and doing some more tweaking with ASIO4ALL I am very happy that I can use Pianoteq in a live situation just using the internals of the Lenovo S-10. Being able to adjust the sample rate in the internal sound engine of Pianoteq is a great way to eek out that little extra CPU to get you by in a situation ;<)

Another thing I am considering is an outboard USB or Firewire (through the Expresscard slot) audio interface to just help get things a little more stable. Possible boosting the RAM ti 2 gig could also help things.

I had this problem on an old Dell laptop, and fixed it after finding some fan control software that allowed me to turn the fan on constant while doing audio stuff.

With the additional tips from Julien in the related Atom 330 thread I can say I feel very confident in what the latest update brings to potential Netbook Pianoteq users.

This is great and I will be doing some more experimenting as time goes by.

Sounds good, will try that.

One other wierd thing I noticed was that when I heard the "cooling fan" speed up i got a dropout.

I have looked into some of the power options aswell as set a dedicated size for the swap file.

I also set display for performance turning off effects, themes Aero glass, etc.

I am just trying this now here is my setup.

Lenovo S-10
1.5 gb memory
Internal Realtek audio
Asio 4 All December 09 release

Not too sure how to tweak it out using the internal Realtek Audio.

I have been getting some crackles and dropouts with it.
I have tried running at 96 and 192 samples at both 44.1 and 48 k.

Any tips would be great.

The latest version has optimisations and settings specifically for running on netbooks. I've not tried it but I've read elsewhere that it works very well!

Has anyone had any success running Pianoteq reliably from a netbook with Windows XP as the OS? Or are the current crop of processors still too weak?

From another thread, it appears that Linux/Pianoteq works pretty well on a netbook. Is Windows XP more, or less, demanding of a processor than say, Ubuntu?
