dv wrote:

...the fact that iOS owners are wealthier and therefore more willing to spend lots of money even on things that tend to be free or inexpensive on Android.

Really? Where's the evidence?? I'm not rich and have iOS devices all cheaper than some Android offerings I've seen advertised https://techcabal.com/2024/07/05/eight-...y-edition/ Yes, these are extreme examples - but really don't make sweeping statements like iOS users are stupid.

I tend to buy refurbished and only when I have to. I don't update the devices every year a new one comes out and only recently had to buy a replacement as 3G was being switched off and my poor 5s wasn't up to the job - apparently! My thoughts on commercial enterprise's sharp practices are another topic not for discussion here!

We are encouraged to be supportive and informative; sharing our knowledge not disparaging or rude to other users. iOS users have feelings too! LOL

MrRoland wrote:

The big problem with Android is that it isn't optimized for low latency audio. This is one of the big advantages of Ios which has no problems with low latency.

Might be not optimized for it, but FluidSynthMIDI, with almost 1GB of samples, on my Samsung A50 (an old, cheap and bottom-of-the-line device) works just fine with completely unnoticeable latency, so I think that is just an excuse perpetuated by developers who don't want to deal with the arguably more broad and hence complicated Android ecosystem of many brands and devices, and the fact that iOS owners are wealthier and therefore more willing to spend lots of money even on things that tend to be free or inexpensive on Android.

Nothing wrong with that market analysis, obviously, they could say "We don't expect the Android version to be profitable compared to the efforts needed to develop it, and hence we reluctantly decided to not purse that avenue". Instead most people use the latency fig leaf and spread disingenuous justifications, blaming the (often just fine) hardware instead of their own market strategy or technical capabilities.

EDIT: and just to be clear, these harsh comments are not aimed at the Pianoteq developers who have been great supporting Linux and have not made any such misleading statements as the ones I hinted above. For that reason, I happily continue to purchase updates and upgrade to my version of Pianoteq!

I will love this too, but I am not holding my breath.

Nobody seems interested in using Android for any music, and very few developers publish anything serious for it. The only exception is FluidSyntMIDI which (despite the name) is not a synth but a sample player.
