I would use Steinway B, lower hammer hardness, and play around with the mics.

I have been searching for a sound like this too for a while. If anyone have found something great Im also interested.

A piano Im using a lot is my own morph.

Its 33% U4 Upright, 33% Stainway D Jazz and 33% Erard (free historical piano). I then go into the model and reduce the String length a bit to roughly match a standard Upright piano and reduce the age slider to around the middle.

This piano has a ton of character.

One thing you can also do is to use the celeste pedal (felt pedal). I think the standard 0.5 thickness is to heavy and reduce it to around 0.25. That adds to the intimate feeling.

Maybe the Steingraeber warm preset is a good starting point ?

If you reduce the hardness of the hammers (especially the forte hammers), increase the hammers noise, adust your EQ and bring your mic closer, you could get close to what you want ?

Some Gentle presets could be a good starting point too ?

Can anyone tell me how I can get such a warm and intimate sound with Pianoteq from the close miked “Piano in Blue” as in this video (from about minute 13:00 mins)?

Which instrument and which preset is best suited for this? What else might I need to adjust?
