I see.
I imagine that I'm not the first nor will I be the last to get into that situation. Most people don't read EULAs, although those who intend to transfer their license should read about it. If I had that information myself, I could avoid the problem just by asking the seller if they are covering the transfer.

Now that I know about that, I think I'd rather wait for a sale than buy it used, since I don't want any extras. A pre-owned license plus transfer fee plus upgrade is not really worth it.

It used to be in the FAQ section. I don't know what happened, it's vanished.
In any case, sellers (who necessarily have read the license at installation) usually declare if the transfer fee is included in the price (for instance, if you search for "sale" in the forum, the three first results are: https://forum.modartt.com/viewtopic.php?id=11362 https://forum.modartt.com/viewtopic.php?id=11103 https://forum.modartt.com/viewtopic.php?id=10842, in which the transfer fee issue is properly mentioned).
So, imho, the seller is somewhat at fault.

I had an embarrassing experience trying to buy a pre-used license only to learn kinda late Modartt charges a fee for the transfer (seller wasn't to blame for that). I believe that information is disclosed to sellers, since they can register in the website, but I couldn't find it the FAQ. Is that information anywhere else in the website and accessible for people who don't own Pianoteq/Organteq yet?
