He's got the reverb turned off completely.

Question - budget or full version?
I wasn't going to watch this again to find out. I watched it quite a while back. I don't remember feeling any special desire to fork out for the sample instruments after hearing the demos - or any desire to let a single piano gobble up an SSD for a tiny difference I might have even imagined!
They gave me even greater respect for Modartt's remarkable achievements frankly. 50 euros and you have a very serious rival to these monsters instantly with no hassle. On top of that because it's modelling the amount of scope for adjustment is far greater. The Syncron pianos do at least rival the sound quality (and very slightly surpass them at times ) though. I'm not hearing that advantage listening to the dry samples though.

Both the Pianoteq model and these sample beasts require a bit of masking with a nice reverb. Were I to hear a piano in an anechoic chamber I'm guessing it would still be obviously a real piano, even if it sounded oddly dry.

Even if you buy it in the VSL summer sale it's going to cost about 6 times more, once you factor in the drive space.
Couple the cost with the loading times (even with quite quick and powerful computers) it ought to be something very special indeed.

I think they both sound excellent by current standards so I don't mind if this massively more hassle expensive sample monster occasionally sounds slightly more realistic.

I like that both approaches exist.
