The singing quality is there for me and while the example seems to sustain slightly more at higher volume in the first seconds, Pianoteq is even slightly longer overall (to the point I had to cut off before it completely died) but the resonances decay faster in volume. Didn't want to modify the preset, this is just a vanilla out of the box example.
.
https://forum.modartt.com/uploads.php?f...20CMaj.mp3

Good questions to which I am afraid there is really no right/correct answer IMHO. The sustains are probably louder in volume due to the proximity effect of the camera mic and it is certainly possible to replicate that in Pianoteq fiddling with impedance or the overtones themselves. Bosendorfers are really complicated to record in RL unless you know what you're doing and you've got quite a bit of experience with piano and the room, because the sound image projected by the piano varies a lot depending on how you place the mics, you can have the richest sound or the thinnest sound just by changing the recording spot.
So there is really no way to tell which sound is "right", it mainly depends on taste as well as the type of your music you're recording.

At last!! thankyou Modartt! A concert grand.. A battleship Boesendorfer.
Seems to me, it sounds even more detailed, coherent, full, balanced
compared to the general profound prior overhaul in the remarkable 8.20 update.
Superb bass, exhilarating(the best of all previous CGs, maybe). Excellent Modartt..
High registers really authentic-woody. The harshtone has been greatly eliminated(with a little tweaking).
Midrange-Achilles' heel for many all these years, very acceptable, nearing the real thing nuances.
My advice, great care in testing the microphones positioning, phasing etc!
I tend to use external reverbs almost exclusively, bytheway. No offence Modartt!
Pianoteq(Pro) with the possibilities it offers in tweaking-shaping(sensibly) the behaviour of the pianos,
is now at very close proximity tothe top of pianosound in the majorityof instruments(not yet all of the pianos!)
Truly remarkable feeling both when practicing or in live performance!

I can almost entirely reduce that subtle Pianoteq synthetic cleanliness, but then it sounds slightly less like the specific target model too - and loses a little of the thunderous crisp bass authority. Trying to reach a happy medium - without bringing back too much hardness (the model compared to the real thing).
If I upgraded to Pro I think I would drive myself mad with all the extra adjustments potential!

Mainly listening with the warm and the classical presets. I've adjusted the classical hammers down on all three sliders. Then I used EQ to bring back some of the brightness. I also adjusted the reverb and moved the microphone positioning to bring back a little life the softer hammer positioning brought.

Don't get me wrong I think it's brilliant out of the box. Just also a little too brilliant in places. I seem to be the only one saying this. So I could be very wrong!

I am very happy with this excellent addition to Pianoteq.

Perhaps adjusting microphone positioning could help.

Edit personally out of the box I found the hammer hardness when played softly seemed unrealistically hard on the model - not enough variation in the sound of the attack at different velocity levels, making it sound too synthetic to me. I reduced this a little and to my amateur ears more like a real Piano. I then brought a little brightness back with a slight tweak to the EQ.

For this model I'm glad I've got Standard
rather than just Stage. I'm sure they will refine the tuning though. This model sounds superb, I was just a little bit surprised not like the sound from the presets without tweaking. Could just be me. That growling bass is great.
This 280vc is an excellent addition. I'm sure we'll hear lots of tweaks in the FXP section soon.
