Just an idea to apply this effect to the drum track...
I played this to a friend and they totally missed that the drum sound was supposed to be a handclap... [sniff]
I've redone it and changed up the organ part too:
Otherwise known as a Leslie I believe.
I 'composed' (that sounds far too grand... 'threw together') a 16-bar ditty in the style of a hymn to start experimenting with this effect.

The 'hand-claps' (hopefully they sound like that (?) were created using DRUM-80 - here is an image of my settings..
On the old Hammond organs we use a volume pedal. This was a great way to control the distortion effect.
Thanks for the info. I've never played a Hammond Drawbar organ, but I have played a classical pipe organ, a theatre organ and have owned several spinet organs. My current spinet is the Yamaha EL-900. It too has a volume pedal and I use it to control expression. Distortion is an effect that's available on the 'organ' and it can be set to alter the sound of the digital 'drawbars' along with any of the orchestral sounds.
Like I said it wasn't an effect that particularly grabbed me - but it's growing on me...

Distortion isn't an effect that particularly grabs me - it sounds dirty and altogether as though the 'sound engineer' (that's me in this case!) hasn't set the levels correctly!!! But I hear it a lot on 'Hamond' type recordings and guitars and thought - maybe I'm missing something... getting the right amount not to sound bad is my current work in progress or [ad] venture...

You can definitely hear when the distortion is applied - there's no subtlety here - HA!
