A most useful use of a DAW ...

Create a simple, loopable track and whilst is plays and plays and plays tweek the Pianoteq parameters to achieve the sound you want then save as preset...

In the following example I have taken the NY Steinway Square Piano (Original) with an initial change to 440 and Well-Temperament

The loop sounds like this:

And changed various parameters to give it a more youthful flavour, particularly with regard to the soundboard and unison width to get this:

I just happen to be more interested in what the composer might have heard and been inspired by when it was 'fresh from the artisant's workshop', not the old, dried out, dusty, detuned shadow of it's former self we see and hear in museums today.

My 2.5 cents:

Custom FX
Easy instrument switching
Layering
Quick A/B-ing of sounds
Playalong tracks (midi/audio)
Easy recording of performances
Easy panning of audio tracks for multiple instances (layers)

I use Ableton to play PT8 usually two with different EQ profiles for left and right.

Having fun with accel and rall / rit...

Cubase, for some bizarre reason doesn't allow for curved tempo curves - you can have straight ramps and steps - no parametric curves!

Well, there's always a way... The exported tempo map reveals an xml object and this can be created using MS Excel...

Creating your own metronome - might be the answer ???

This is a necesitated redo of an earlier experiment. GSi's plugin "DRUM-80" doesn't remember it's setting you have to save a preset - Grrr! Still using my 'new' favourite DAW - Cubase Pro 12 though.
