Moving presets and Bluthner AB question

Q1 Moving presets
I've installed v9 on another laptop. My old presets from v8 aren't showing. The last time I did this (installed v8) they appeared automatically. Is this because v7 was already there on that laptop? Is there a preset folder the program looks for? How do I move my old v8 presets across from that laptop to the new one?

Q2 Bluther AB (was listed in older versions)
Also I've had a Bluthner user preset that is just the old AB one but with mechanical sounds silenced. The AB preset wasn't there in v8 (I think) but it appeared anyway when I installed v8. How do I get it in v9 or which is supposed to be the AB preset in v9? Thanks in advance for any help.

Live sound has less quality than replayed sound

Hi,

I have realised that playing live vs playback of recorded notes does have a different quality sound. The recorded one is the good one while the live sound is somewhat metallic, not at all desirable.

I noticed this difference when using Pianoteq with an iPad (2025 model, 11th gen, A16 processor). Then I tried with an old MacBook Pro from 2013 and it did not happen, I could barely notice the difference between live and playback. I have tested this thoroughly playing notes slowly and paying a lot of attention.

Could this be caused by the iPad having less capacity of processing real time complex sounds in Pianoteq?

Is anybody else experiencing this big difference between live and recorded playback?

Any ideas about how to fix it?

Thank you for your help and sharing similar experiences

MOTU M2 Driver updated, News of the Wired

I'm excited to see and hear that my (Mark of the Unicorn) MOTU M2 can now handle audio from multiple programs running in Windows at once, e.g. Pianoteq + an mp3 player. MOTU has apparently mostly fixed the Windows 11 software/drivers/whatever it is that makes them work in non-exclusive mode.

I noticed this because after a while of using Windows+MOTU M2 perfectly satisfactorily in ASIO exclusive mode, and updating Windows regularly, it started to sometimes decide for me what the best sample rate and buffer would be. So Pianoteq would load up in 96khz but like 50ms delay. Very disorienting. Or my mp4 playing app would play audio pitched up about 5 percent. Bizarre. So I updated to the MOTU driver and software package from their site and discovered this nice treat.

More exploration of this to come before I can say for sure it does everything I could hope for-- are some apps not going to play well in nonexclusive mode for example, but I think this is very possibly great news.

Are there any papers on the mathematics of the modelling that Pianoteq uses? I know that my be proprietary, but perhaps there are some overview articles?

I saw a video where they go to a factory like Kawai and record lots of samples, just as a sampling VST make would do. How do they get to the modelled VST from the sample set?

My background is in mathematics so I was delighted to see Pianoteq came from a maths department in France.

New Pianoteq user, immediately upgraded to Standard. I got three instruments. For my piece there is a strange background pulsing sound in any instrument. There was a very old post here suggesting to turn down the sympathetic resonance but that has no effect. It really ruins the playback. I do not know how to troubleshoot this. I am using Pianoteq in Dorico 6.

Better resolution for Wah pedal control?

Is there any way in the Pianoteq software to smooth out the 128 steps for controlling wah pedals over midi?
I'm mainly looking at pianoteq as a way to get good clavinet and pianet sounds on stage.

So far using midi to control the wah pedal frequency has been too steppy or zippered sounding, is it possible to smooth this or somehow use 14 bit msb lsb messages?
I would like to avoid using external effects, but if needed I can just use an effects modeler unit I am currently using for my Pianet.

Pianoteq sounds so much more polished through my IEMs

Hi all,

I'm seeking some wisdom.

Why does Pianoteq sound so much better through my Sennheiser IEMs than my Beyerdynamic 770 PRO X Limited Edition closed back headphones?

With the 770s chromatic scales sound rather too uneven despite levelling unison width and the other one, unison something (forgot what it's called!)
However when listening through the IEMs it's night and day! Such smooth chromatic runs.

Also, when playing through my Soundcore X600s, evenness, but when playing through my KEF LS50s, again, I hear great inconsistencies.

Could it be that the more expensive offerings reveal too much and the cheaper ones behave more forgivingly, or am I missing something???

So for now, I'll listen through the budget options!

Any ideas guys???

Warmest regards,

Chris

Kawai Hybrids vs. Acoustics with Silent or ATX4 systems

looking ahead, I’d like to share something and ask for your advice, fellow Pianoteq sages. I’m a huge Kawai fan, whether it’s their acoustics (I own an upright), their controllers (I have an MP7SE and I love it), or the wonderful Pianoteq model.
I’ve read plenty of great things here about Kawai’s hybrids, the Novus series, but I’m noticing that a baby grand (or a medium one, if we really go all out) with a Silent or ATX4 system installed wouldn't be much more expensive. That way, you get a 'real' piano plus the Silent/Pianoteq option. Has anyone here owned or tried this setup and could share their thoughts?
