Very Important !

Why when i touch the keyboard on the touch screen the sound is more detailed, brillant, realistic rather than in playing normally on keyboard ? (with cable usb B-A on Kawai CA901)

the sound is much more muffled !

all velocities are concerned !

everything is more real on touch screen !

is Very Very Important, this means that there is a downgrade in sound quality for everyone !

by comparing several cables usb B-A i hear subtle sound differences while the values sent are the same normally !

but never so good as on the touchscreen !

Kawai with Strings Pad

Greetings,

I'm a total noob to a Pianoteq, so don't beat me hard for a silly question. )
I love Kawai with strings a lot, however I have few measures where I would like to pull strings down. Is it possible to apply automation to String Pad moving its level down and then back? (I guess on a track level). If it's possible, then how?

Thanks in advance.

how to set up soft pedal with master keyboard

hello, I haven't bought pianoteq yet, so far my korg ds1h soft pedal isn't working with my master keyboard, an alesis coda digital piano. Pianoteq says I am using a standard pedal (which isn't really true). From what I understand my keyboard doesn't support soft pedal. What do I need to do? I am on a mac. Is there a low cost midi interface with the right inputs, and if so what is that?

Quite frankly I am disappointed at how pianoteq just seems to say: it doesn't work, end of story. Anyways, I am willing to give this a shot, if it's too involved I'll probably leave it as I practice and record a lot, don't have much time to fiddle with complicated setups

I tried many pianos... But pianoteq is really good

While on vacation in Germany, I had the opportunity to visit the famous Thomann store. The sheer number of instruments of all kinds is impressive. I spent some time in the pianos and keyboard section, and here are a few impressions from an amateur.
I tried out a good dozen grand pianos (Kawai, Yamaha, Steinway, Seiler, and Thomann). I don’t have the expertise to judge their respective quality, but the feel is amazing. The first impression is the loud volume, which is a bit overwhelming at first, but a soundproof room with about ten pianos allowed me to play freely. I love the sound diffusion of grand.

I’ve tried few upright pianos (I have one at home); Steinway, Bechstein and others but I don’t like that feeling of being confined with my back to the room, my nose pressed against the cabinet, and the sound too close. Playing on a grand is much more enjoyable.

I also tried a few digital pianos, including the new Kawai NV12, but I didn’t dare turn the volume up too high to test the soundboard. I mainly tried them with headphones (all the pianos were equipped with Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro 32-ohm headphones).

After two wonderful hours, however, I concluded that my personal Pianoteq setup with a standard PHA-4 keyboard mounted in a wooden cabinet Is very good...
Now I'm certain of it: Pianoteq is the best investment I've made in a long time

Translated with DeepL.com (free version)

Update 9.2.0. (June 5th 2026)

Thank you, Modartt team, for this update. I downloaded it this evening and noticed the difference straight away. I loaded up the Steingraeber Warm preset and the attack on this just works for me.

I see that there have been performance improvements according to the changelog.
Are you able to elaborate on this?

One thing I have noticed is thar the decay of velocity indicators in the velocity pane is quicker. I think this is an improvement.

I like the 3D keyboard. Very appealing.

Thanks again all,

Warmest regards,

Chris

Piano Models request

Once in a while, requests for new piano models pop up in this forum. Here is my wish list.
When I bought my VPC1 it came with velocity curves for Ravenscroft, Alicias keys etc. This is why I have a Ravenscroft VST and Alicias Keys as VST. And than many more, largely from NI.
Also Pianoreq I bought because there was a curve deliverd with the VPC1 Editor. Maybe otherwise I would have never heard about pianoteq.
But with pianoteq, my piano practice has become very exiting. I could pick a Piano and a preset that did sit well with what I tried to learn. That choice added exitement and motivation to keep going. And there is a hughe appetite to have more choices.
And, allready having a Ravenscroft VST - I want a Ravenscroft Piano Model in Pianoteq.
NIs Claire is said to be based on a Fazioli - I want a Fazioli Piano Model in Pianoteq.
Because having these fine Instruments behaving like the real thing, just like all the other Models available, seems to be so much better than triggering pre-recorded samples.
And, from looking at former posts asking for Fazioli (and I think even Ravenscroft was mentioned sometimes) I am in good company wishing our choices to expand.

If it is possible to make the physical model even better than it is today, I think I would update (even if CPU load does increase).
But adding a Fazioli and a Ravenscroft Instrument will make me update for shure!

Feature request

Dear Modartt,

Like many of the sliders in the user interface, the pre-delay slider has two options. 1. Right click on the slider and up pops a window which allows whole number gradations. 2. Drag slider with mouse allowing 'higher definition' gradations.

My request is this, could we have the 'higher definition' gradations labelled with a number please. The reason I ask is because I've been working with the pre-delay a lot lately and would like this feature as it would help to be able to locate these points in the gradation.

Yours hopefully,

Warmest regards,

Chris

Pianoteq Glitches?

I save my Rhodes and Wurlitzer programs on an iPad with tremolo turned on. Often though when calling up these programs from my keyboard (Viscount Legend One 73) more often than not they come up with the tremolo off. I then have to switch to another program on the Viscount and switch back to see if the tremolo works the next time. If I minimize the open window on the iPad I can bring up the Pianoteq window and quickly switch to an adjacent program & switch back and it comes up correctly, but this often requires more time than I have in a live situation. Is there a setting in Pianoteq where I can remedy this problem? Another glitch that sometimes happens is that Pianoteq will quit working. Then I need to disconnect the iPad from the Viscount and it starts working again upon reconnecting. I have Pianoteq set to MIDI channel 5 but don't know of a setting that will filter out all other channels, in case the buffer is overloading. Does anyone else experience this problem and have you found a way to correct these two glitches? Thanks.

Microtonal tuning from Dorico has stopped working in Pianoteq 9

Dorico 6.2.20, Pianoteq Pro 9.1.0

Pianoteq 9 as a VST plug-in in Dorico does not play the microtuned pitches notated in a Tonality System in Dorico. MIDI Tuning is set to 'Yes' in Pianoteq. None of the four options in Dorico Expression Maps - Auto, VST Note Expression, Detune, or Pitch bend - work. Changing the Playback Template doesn't help.

However, Pianoteq 8 works, as always. This implies that in Pianoteq 9, the VST tuning method that Dorico uses is broken. Or perhaps something now goes wrong when Pianoteq 9 is opened as plug-in in Dorico.

Pianoteq 9.1 does respond to MPE, MTS-ESP and single-note-MTS tuning in a DAW, using external apps, plug-ins and controllers. As far as I can tell, VST tuning in Dorico is the only microtonal feature that has stopped working.
